Troubleshooting: an approval is stuck
An approval that never resolves usually means no reviewer is assigned, or the reviewer has not yet acted.
#When to use this
Use this when something is waiting on an approval that is not moving.
#Step by step
1
Find the pending item
Locate what is waiting for approval.
2
Confirm a reviewer
Check that someone with permission is assigned to decide.
3
Notify the reviewer
Prompt them to review, or reassign to someone available.
4
Decide
Once reviewed, approve or reject to unblock the work.
#Expected result
What you should see
The approval is decided and the dependent work continues.
#Common mistakes
- No reviewer with permission is assigned.
- Waiting silently instead of prompting the reviewer.
#Troubleshooting
| If this happens | Try this |
|---|---|
| No one can approve it | Ensure a user with the right permission exists; an admin can grant it. |
#Best practices
- Assign reviewers up front.
- Follow up on pending approvals promptly.
